Not every student鈥檚 undergraduate research project gets as much exposure as that of Kelsey Leuenberger. The BSU senior鈥檚 work took the form of sidewalk art, and each day thousands of students enjoy it as they cross the driveway of the Chapel parking lot.
Inspired by Ottoman and Turkish art, the red-and-yellow design is based on windows and tiles as they appear in the architecture seen in that part of the world. Kelsey modernized things a bit for her creation.
A double major in art and sociology who is minoring in both communication studies and Middle Eastern studies, she likes to incorporate her activist impulses in her artwork.
As for the results of her summer research and on-site drawing, stenciling and painting? Kelsey said she鈥檚 pleased.
鈥淚t was a lot of work, but I鈥檓 pretty happy with it,鈥 she said. (Story and filming by John Winters, G 鈥11; video editing by Sean T. Meehan)
