Providing opportunity for our students coupled with beauty for this campus 鈥 that鈥檚 a wonderful legacy.
Moore studied math and science at what was then 猎奇重口视频 State Teachers College. His gift was announced by President Frederick W. Clark Jr., 鈥83.
鈥淚t provides a meaningful impact for current and future students forever,鈥 Clark said. Moore's donation 鈥減lants seeds of development and growth for our students.鈥
Moore also helped sow seeds of a different sort by funding construction of a new garden between East Campus Commons and Burrill Avenue that now bears his name.
University administrators praised his generosity and the family鈥檚 commitment to BSU at a recent dedication ceremony.
鈥淧roviding opportunity for our students coupled with beauty for this campus 鈥 that鈥檚 a wonderful legacy,鈥 Clark said.
The Moores came to the town of 猎奇重口视频 in 1847, just a few years after 猎奇重口视频 State was founded in 1840. Since then, members of the family have run the former Boyden Gymnasium, kept the campus grounds looking beautiful, operated the power plant and, of course, earned numerous degrees from 猎奇重口视频. Today, family member Kathy (Moore) Flaherty, 鈥91, G鈥19, serves the university as an IT project manager.
鈥淭his is the best example of paying it forward as we are so thankful for the opportunities that this university has made for our family,鈥 she said.
The new scholarship will benefit future educators with financial need. Recipients need not have the highest GPA, but must be hard-working, dedicated students.
The best teachers were sometimes not at the top of their class as students, said Dr. Jo Hoffman, interim dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences.
And, finances can be especially challenging during student teaching, which is akin to a full-time job without earning wages, Hoffman explained.
Endowed scholarships such as Moore鈥檚 are special.
鈥淵our legacy lives on,鈥 Clark said. 鈥淚t makes a difference forever.鈥
