EXCEL Transition Residence Life

EXCEL students living on campus are able to work on their independent living skills in a natural, safe environment.

Independent Living Skills programs are put on six times per semester and run by our two Evening Peer Leaders. These events are fully inclusive and open to all Scott Hall residents. Topics include - Healthy Lifestyle, Self-Advocacy, Communication and Boundaries, Personal Safety, Cooking and Grocery Shopping, Money Management and Budgeting, Laundry and Hygiene, etc. All events are interactive and promote student participation through PowerPoints, visuals, partner activites and games.

Students are supported by Residence Life Peer Mentors every evening who provide natural supports as needed (i.e. attending campus events, trying out new clubs, providing academic support, running independent living skills programs, etc.) In addition, students are supported by the EXCEL Residence Life Coordinator, an EXCEL Resident Assistant, and BSU鈥檚 Area Coordinator/Resident Director.

*Eligible students must meet a separate set of criteria, including but not limited to: the ability to function independently, recognize/react to emergency situations and display strong self-advocacy skills.
